Galacticos Cricket Club (“GCC”) is Manhattan’s inner-city cricket club. Founded on September 23, 2011, by Nikhil Puri, the club initially played friendly games a few times a year against clubs in the NY Tri-State area. Today, GCC plays approximately 50 matches a year. We compete in two of the region’s top competitive cricket leagues. We are represented by its First XI on Saturdays and Second XI on Sundays, and along with our full league schedule, we play several friendlies, intra-club fixtures and tour matches throughout the year.
The purpose of the club is to provide an opportunity to league-level cricketers of all nationalities and backgrounds who live in and around the Manhattan and New York City area a chance to play competitive cricket and also enjoy a fun social atmosphere within the club. Our club’s motto is to play hard on the field to win, and enjoy a drink and a few laughs with each other afterwards.
Our club members come from varied parts of the cricketing world such as India, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka the West Indies and Australia, and we are one of the very few clubs with teammates from the United States who have not come from a traditional cricketing background. This is a testament to our commitment to support the expansion of cricket in the United States at the grass-roots level.
GCC will go on tour at least twice a year. We have historically toured Florida, Jamaica, Philadelphia to play games at fantastic cricket grounds and plan to expand our list of tour destinations.
