The George Donnelly Sunset League represents the country’s most competitive brand of amateur wooden bat baseball. The GDSL is based in Newport, RI, and has been around since 1919. With teams coming from all around Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts, along with teams from the armed forces, the GDSL has been going strong since its inception. The GDSL was founded in 1919 by Dr. Peter Integlia and Arthur Leland. The league began play on August 4th, 1919, with a matchup between the Orioles and Tigers at the Basin (Cardines Field). The GDSL consisted of the Orioles, Tigers, Richmonds, Ironsides, Braves and Clean-ups. The GDSL starts its season in May and runs through early August. The league champion is determined by a playoff after the regular season. The winner takes home the Dr. Peter Integlia trophy.
