In 1955, the first women’s softball organization was established, the Calgary Ladies Fastball League. With a handful of teams, this courageous group overcame many obstacles along the way to carve a niche for women’s sport in Cowtown. By 1972, the CLFL had grown to some 50 teams and felt it was time for a new look. Hence, the Calgary Ladies Softball Association was born. In the 1980s, we were introduced to new ways and means to play the game. Softball was no longer the only game in town; there was also slo-pitch (men, women, coed) and modified orthodox (coed). The CLSA, an organization with an eye to the future, entered the new millennium as the CALGARY WOMEN’S FASTPITCH ASSOCIATION (CWFA). Only the name has changed; our objectives remain the same. After 60 years, the CWFA continues to strive to provide a first-class organization in which sportswomen from 14 to 94 can play the game of fastpitch softball at the A or B level against the best competition available.
