History of the Amarillo Senior Softball Club

The genesis of the Amarillo Senior Softball Club was actually in Houston, Texas. Gary Jennings played in the senior league there from 2005 to 2010. After 30 years in Houston, he returned to Amarillo in January 2011. After settling in and researching what was available for senior men (50 and over), it was discouraging. There had to be some older guys who were playing or wanted to play. He even signed up to play at the city parks department and waited for 2 to 3 months for someone to call and ask to play. No such luck. What to do now?

In May 2011, Gary Jennings, Les Clemmons with Lubbock Senior League, Larry Offerdahl, and Rod Tweet with the Amarillo Parks and Recreation Department met at a Tulia truck stop and devised a plan. In only 30 days, they had five teams and 65 players! The ASSC played from early August to late October.
